in a safe, social, fun environment.
At Bozeman JuJitsu, we believe that martial
arts training is about physical fitness but also about
mental and emotional growth: an integration of
body, mind & spirit. Our philosophy is based on the principles of respect, self-respect, self-discipline, and perseverance. We strive to create a positive and
supportive environment where students can learn
and grow both on and off the mat.
The DanZan Ryu system promotes the Hawaiian concept
of "Kokua" or mutual assistance "to help one another".
This concept, of service to others, is the central philosophy of the system and is an integral part of every jujitsu class.
DanZan Ryu JuJitsu is a relatively complete martial arts system that includes: rolling and falling practice, kicks and strikes, leverage escapes & holds, judo throws, grappling, and weapons techniques for: sword, iron fan, staff/bo, knife and gun. The system also includes methods of restorative massage, healing and trauma management.
Bozeman Ju-Jitsu requires membership in the American Judo & JuJitsu Federation ($60/year). Our business insurance, rank advancement, clinics and competitions are through the American Judo and JuJitsu Federation, a non-profit (501c3) organization dedicated to promoting DanZan Ryu Jujitsu in the United States and internationally.
Jujitsu is an active, athletic activity and everyone may
not be physically able to do every standard technique
in the system.
Fortunately, there are adapted variations to the techniques that may work better for an individual than the standard technique and anyone, regardless of age, sex or physical ability can learn the principles of a technique and be able
to instruct others in that technique.
Henry Okazaki, the founder of DanZan Ryu, named his school the "Kodenkan". Kodenkan translates as either
"The School of Ancient Tradition" or "The School Where
the Seniors Transmit the Tradition". The ability to
teach is an important aspect of DanZan Ryu and
is practiced at all rank levels.
